Want a real adventure? Try mentoring… especially mentoring a middle schooler. I coordinated a tutoring/mentoring program at my children’s middle school for 20+ years and talk about “gathering people together for interesting experiences”…
Mentoring another person of any age, though, is an ideal platform for gathering and connecting over interesting experiences. Retired business execs can mentor the young (or not young, come to think of it…) just starting out or trying to get over a bump in their business and move forward. Engineers can mentor high school or college students. People who want to share the love of reading with a child have a special opportunity for the “new experiences” they find as they enter the world of a book with a child.
Organizations large and small can provide the training and guidance needed to engage in the life of someone who would like to experience something new with someone who’s been there and who might also want to learn something new together.
If you know of an opportunity in or near Wichita for volunteers to mentor others, and there is a solid plan in place for engaging volunteers (including a coordinator and screening/training process) please email me and I’ll add a link to your organization or opportunity.
